How do I connect a USB External Drive directly to my Router?

I bought an external drive that connects through USB, but I want it to plug directly into the router because it will be shared and I want to be able to access the external drive without someone having to have their computer on all the time.

You would need to get the manual for your drive off the network. I have a USB drive that allows has an ethernet port and can be plugged in to the network as Network Attached Storage (NAS). However each machine needs to have a program installed on it. I’m not aware of any specific standards yet for NAS devices, so your best bet is to check the manufacturers web site.
